Over the past couple of years, Crimson Resort and Spa Boracay has proven that it is more than just another elegant getaway on one of the world’s favorite island destinations. Its name has become synonymous with what is rapidly becoming an artistic awakening in the Central Philippines, as it is the first resort in the country to have its own arts program.
Between them, Crimson Boracay’s general manager Patrick Manthe who is an artist in his own right and current Artist in Residence Eric Egualada, have spearheaded numerous creative initiatives ranging from art classes to help stimulate guests’ imaginations, exhibitions showcasing the best young talents, and the regular Art on a Plate events where the visual and performing arts turn fine dining into an experience for all the senses. As 2021 drew to a close, the resort also staged ballet performances to entertain guests staying for the holidays, as well as a New Year’s Eve fashion show titled “Epitome of Eve” which featured the work of upcoming designer Erielyn Gaston.
At present, “Sirens by Ike Eichensehr,” is on display at the resort until Jan. 31. This stunning exhibition of Eichensehr’s monochrome photographs pays homage to his passion for women and the sea in a celebration of elegant and ethereal beauty.
But the resort now brings to the fore its biggest artistic endeavor yet, thanks to an open call for artists who are keen on presenting their work to appreciative art lovers making their way to Boracay.
An Invitation to ‘50 Shades of Blue‘
Crimson Boracay officially makes an open call to artists – regardless of their professional status, so long as they are Filipinos or foreigners currently residing in the Philippines – to join “50 Shades of Blue,” a creative initiative that is expected to result in the largest collection of artwork displayed on the island.
A select panel of judges will choose the 50 best artworks from all the submissions received. These will be put on display throughout the resort for the whole month of May and will also be available for purchase by interested collectors and art aficionados.
Aside from the possibility of winning a cash prize for the best artwork in the collection, participating artists may also consider it an opportunity to gain exposure to a wider possible audience as their work will be featured in all media related to the exhibition. Likewise, it will also enable them to meet art critics and collectors who are looking for fresh talents to feature in future exhibitions in galleries both here and overseas.
It is Crimson Boracay’s way of staying true to its vision of becoming a leading center for creativity on top of offering world-class getaways to the heart of paradise.
