Marriott Philippines has appointed Sophia Altamirano as market director of sales and distribution and director of National Sales Office. She will be based at Marriott Hotel Manila.
Year 2023 has become a pivotal year for Altamirano whereby she relocated back home in June to continue her professional journey and advocacies here in the Philippines. She brings with her more than two decades of experience in the hospitality industry, having worked with various brands and roles, including 18 years with AccorHotels Group, working with Mercure, Grand Mercure, Novotel and Sofitel properties in the Philippines and Vietnam as its director of sales and marketing, before moving to her first corporate role as regional director of sales responsible for Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore hotels. She then moved to Bangkok, Thailand to join the Upper Southeast Asia team as its regional director of sales responsible for seven major brands across properties in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Philippines and Myanmar and afterwards, moved into operations as executive assistant manager for Pullman Bangkok Sukhumvit prior to joining Onyx Hospitality Group as vice president of sales similarly based in Bangkok, Thailand. Prior to her homecoming, Altamirano was the cluster director of sales and marketing for Raffles Hotels Cambodia.
Altamirano’s vast exposure enabled her to have a global overview in leading teams and strategies that reflects the diversity of associates, consumers and audiences of today. A strong commercial leader with a proven track record of performance milestones, a trainer and a voice of women in leadership roles, she brings with her years of expertise in sales, brand, digital marketing, public relations, revenue management, distribution, and hotel operations.
In her current role, Altamirano will be overseeing the sales and distribution efforts of the entire Marriott Philippines portfolio. She will be collaborating with the property leaders and their sales and marketing teams.
Commenting on her new role with Marriott Philippines, Altamirano said:
“I look forward to be able to finally bring home my experience and expertise and share that to the team, as we work together with our properties to achieve our targets. It is an exciting time for our company, as we expand our portfolio not only in Manila but as well as into other well-known destinations in the Philippines.”
An advocate of developing local talent for future leadership roles supporting potential women leaders in their career aspiration through mentorships, counselling or being a referee, Altamirano believes in having a localized, reachable platform, a role model on the ground, where women and other future leaders are in a safe space where common cultural and professional experiences are shared and resonated.
