The beauty of the Filipino language takes centerstage as Tanghalang Pilipino (TP) releases performances that are based on Philippine literary works, in celebration of “Buwan ng Wika.” These performances will be streamed online under “PansamanTanghalan,” at the official TP Youtube channel.

“Pamanang Pahina” consists of dramatic readings of Filipino children’s books from OMF Library-Hiyas, which will be performed by members of the Actors Company, with Anino Shadowplay Collective providing the striking visuals. Starting off the storytelling series is “Ang Bagong Kaibigan ni Bing Butiki” written by Yna Reyes (with Illustration by Jason Moss), and adapted for this performance by Nono Pardalis. This episode, about an encompassing friendship between unlikely characters, is now available to stream.

CCP Online is featuring TP’s “Nang Dalawin ng Pag-Ibig si Juan Tamad.” Adapted for stage by Rody Vera, with direction by Jonathan Tadioan and featuring the TP Actors Company, the play was originally performed at the CCP in February 2018. It’s now available for streaming at the official CCP Youtube channel.

“Heneral Rizal,” a monologue written by Floro Quibuyen, is the first production under “Bagong Tagpo,” a section which provides an opportunity for audiences to see how a TP production is developed.

Featuring a commanding performance from TP Artistic Director Nanding Josef, under the direction of Chuck Gutierrez, this little-known tale of National Hero Jose Rizal’s valiant fraternal half, Paciano, will be premiering in Cinemalaya 16: Stream Consciousness. This marks the first collaboration between TP and the largest Philippine Independent Film Festival. It’s available to stream starting August 16.

The Buwan ng Wika celebrations ends on a high note with an online concert called “Handa, Await” which features inspiring songs from two landmark musicals from TP—“Noli Me Tangere: The Musical” and “Walang Sugat.” The concert starts streaming on August 30.

Another production worth checking out is “Lukot-lukot, Bilog-bilog,” a play which focuses on the financial challenges of SHS student Gwyneth as she makes her way to her dream university.

Aided by various personalities in Philippine history, Gwyneth gets caught in different situations that will teach her, and the audience, about making informed financial decisions. “Lukot-Lukot, Bilog-Bilog” was staged last December 2017 at the CCP Little Theater, and has enjoyed a successful school tour since then.

As the demand for resources increases exponentially during this pandemic, financial literacy makes resource management more efficient. From making wise expenses to creating one’s household budget, “Lukot-Lukot, Bilog-Bilog” serves as a strong reminder that being financially literate can start at an early age.
