
Known for featuring innovative themes and luxurious high tea experiences, Raffles Makati’s The Writers Bar recently launched its newest exciting theme, Sakura Afternoon Tea, which will be available until the end of May.
Supported by Swissôtel Nankai Osaka, Raffles Makati features two Japanese guest chefs – head chef Hiroto Yoshida and executive pastry chef Yuki Nakamura – and partnered with tea master Kenta Ikeda of Ikeda Seicha during the launch, to concoct the authentic Sakura Afternoon Tea menu for guests to enjoy.
It showcases a choice of TWG luxury tea flavors with an option to upgrade into Secha (loose) seaweed like flavor, Genmaicha (loose) roasted pop rice or Matcha (powdered) Ikeda Seicha green tea, plus two luscious tiers of savory and sweet canapés – Culinary Arts and Sweet Temptations’ tiers composed of Matcha sesame tofu with black beans and lotus root, “Teriyaki” chicken sandwich and egg salad, Salmon roll with tofu, daikon radish Matcha madeleine, Mitarashi dumpling, Sakura and berry Mont Blanc, Sakura and cream cheese mousse, Strawberry panna cotta and yuzu jelly, to name a few.

During the launch which was hosted by Raffles Makati hotel manager Aubrey Ada, tea master Kenta Ikeda together with Keiko Ozaeta, managing director of Ikeda Seicha, explained the fascinating tea ceremony ritual, and demonstrated together with five selected guests the engaging Matcha making activity, while Raffles Makati’s executive chef Bela Rieck introduced head chef Yoshida san and executive pastry chef Nakamura San to present and expound on the interesting story behind its authentic Sakura Afternoon Tea menu.
The Writers Bar at Raffles Makati is open daily from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., where the Sakura Afternoon Tea is served on a Reservations Only basis from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Each set for two is P2,900 nett, with optional upgrades for mocktail, cocktails and champagne.
