Sichu Malatang, the hotpot brand known for its authentic Sichuan flavors, has opened its eighth branch in Uptown Mall (Level 3)in BGC. Thanks to its authentic flavors, daily fresh ingredients, and easy-going vibe, it has gained popularity since its first branch opened in DoubleDragon in Pasay in 2019.
Jeff Li, who owns the brand, welcomed media friends, foodies, and other guests during the opening of the location in September. Li is a Filipino-Chinese entrepreneur who understands what both cultures want, understanding the love for bold flavors combined with a comfortable, relaxed dining experience. There are no intimidating setups here—just straightforward Sichuan-style hotpot with all the warmth and flavor of authentic Chinese street food.
Sichu Malatang is all about choice—guests can fill their bowls with a variety of fresh ingredients, from vegetables to meats, and have them cooked in a mouth-numbing “Mala” soup. The signature experience of Sichuan street hotpot is recreated in store, giving diners the freedom to customize their meal. But a tip for first-timers: don’t go overboard on the ingredients! Start with just enough, and add more if you need to. The experience is all about savoring the flavors, not overwhelming your palate.
For those who are spice-cautious, Li has some wise advice: stick with the regular soup first. The spice levels range up to tongue-scorching, and unless you’re a heat fiend, it’s best to start slow and add condiments later on.
If hot pot soup (malatang) isn’t what you’re going for that day, they also have stir fry dry pot (malaxiangguo) for those in the mood for something different—options are definitely abundant here.
The new branch at BGC boasts a capacity of 40 seats indoors, plus more outdoor seating for those who prefer dining al fresco. Like its other branches in Mall of Asia, DoubleDragon, Food District at Shang The Fort, Eastwood, Podium, UP Town Center, and Venice Piazza, this branch promises a fresh and delicious hotpot experience every day. And if this isn’t enough, there’s news of another branch soon to open in Shangri-La Plaza Mall, with plans to expand to Cebu and Cagayan de Oro in the near future.
While similar concepts have been popping up around the metro, Li and his team are confident that there’s still nothing like the real, flavorful deal at Sichu Malatang.
