Go Lokal! has proven to be a game changer when it comes to putting quality local products in the forefront. Since its launch in 2017, it has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs make their products more accessible and marketable to millions of people.

What Go Lokal! was doing was important before the pandemic hit the country. Today, it continues to assist micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) amidst the pandemic. Ttruly extraordinary.

Go Lokal!, a project spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), is a retail concept store that showcases some of the best Filipino-crafted products.

The project continues to help MSMEs in a myriad of ways, more importantly by providing free retail space through its retail partners and offering merchandise development assistance so the merchants can produce commercially-viable products for the market.

As of April 2020, the Go Lokal! program has assisted 607 MSMEs.

While the pandemic has brought the country to a standstill, more Go Lokal! locations are re-opening their doors. Out of the 123 Go Lokal! stores nationwide, 58 outlets (located in supermarkets) are open today.

Go Lokal! merchants that have been affected by the quarantine restrictions have been active in finding opportunities to continuously earn and serve the consumers. For one, many take part in Go Lokal!’s e-commerce initiatives with platforms like Lazada, Shopinas, and UnionBank Global Linker, so that they can sell their products online.

To further help merchants in these challenging times, Go Lokal! is prioritizing projects with popular online platforms to provide continuous assistance such as the DTI’s Pantawid COVID-19 E-commerce Program which aims to help MSMEs get free onboarding opportunities to e-commerce platforms.

DTI has also launched the “Buy Local, Go Lokal” campaign, a national media movement that aims to create opportunities for the recovery and growth of MSMEs. (More on this project in a follow-up article soon).

Go Lokal! stores are located in places that have high foot traffic. The program has been catering to a wide range of sectors in the manufacturing industry such as home, lifestyle, fashion, food, and health and wellness, among others.

Among the products Go Lokal! offers in its stores include snacks made from local materials, home decor, toys, work-study essentials such as backpacks, journals, and desk organizers. There are also wearable items and textile-based accessories that include shawls, stylish purses, and shoes, as well as the traditional salakot.

Also noteworthy are the different wines and coffee products, bar soaps, bamboo speakers, and chocolates being offered.
