Pinacanauan River is one awe-inspiring destination in Cagayan Valley

Breathtaking views

The breathtaking and serene Pinacanauan River in Peñablanca, Cagayan Valley, is one awe-inspiring destination.

By all accounts, the Pinacanauan River is the “cleanest and smallest” among the three tributaries that meet the Cagayan River. The water is quite simply pure and untainted.

Friendly local boatmen are on standby to take passengers on a peaceful ride along the river for a minimum fee. They take guests to an area more suitable for swimming.

There are kayaking and whitewater rafting options, too, for the adventure seekers. The place is surrounded by mountains for hiking, climbing and spelunking. But more importantly, the river drains into the agricultural plains, which makes it a very important source of water for irrigation.

Peaceful surrounding

Individuals who opt not to get wet, on the other hand, can ask the boatmen to take them to a place where they can observe thousands of bats come out of the Callao Cave (we’ll write about this equally amazing place in a separate article) to look for dinner. The bats come out at exactly 6 p.m. everyday. This in itself makes the trip worth it.

Pro tip: Dress comfortably (and bring swimwear in case you decide to take a dip).

Aside from the river and the bats, the view of the sunset—glistening in the water—was priceless. It’s one Instagram-ready photo after another.

Kudos to the local government for putting up a tourism center with guides, who individuals can ask for assistance. The locals are super friendly, so we suggest talking with them to learn more about the community they live in.

Pinacanauan is considered as one of the most picturesque attractions located in Cagayan. A visit to this place is definitely a must.
