Sometimes, all you need is a serene escape from city life, a chance to answer the call for a quiet weekend and a deep connection with nature.

This is one of the many things Hiraya Wellness Resort and Ecopark offers. It’s an eco-friendly haven located along the scenic national highway in Aguilar, Pangasinan, that combines wellness, nature, and sustainable practices.

The place creates an environment where guests can reconnect with nature and themselves, surrounded by lush greenery and animals. It’s an ideal place for a family adventure, a wellness getaway, or quality time with friends and loved ones.

We got to visit Hiraya as part of the NLEX Lakbay Norte trip in the peak of summer, when temperatures in Pangasinan were hitting 38 degrees. Yet, it was cool at Hiraya, thanks to the huge trees in the 57-hectare property (only six of which have been developed at the moment) that provide ample shade for guests.

A peaceful sanctuary

Hiraya, which translates to “fruits of one’s dream, hope, and aspiration,” lives up to its name by providing a peaceful sanctuary where visitors can unwind and rejuvenate. Teeming with well-maintained plants and greenery, the mornings are particularly still, with the only sounds being the gentle chirping of kuliglig, creating an atmosphere of calm and relaxation.

Opened in 2019 and fully operational by 2020, Hiraya boasts 17 spacious rooms spread across four villas. Each room is thoughtfully designed to blend modern comfort with rustic Filipino charm, ensuring a cozy and restful stay. The modern Filipino theme is evident throughout the resort, providing guests with a sense of cultural immersion while enjoying contemporary amenities.

Culinary delights at Abong ni Tio Berto

A highlight of our visit was dining at Abong ni Tio Berto, the resort’s in-house restaurant named after the owner’s father. Opened in November 2023, this cozy eatery offers a delightful mix of Filipino and global cuisine. Sourcing fresh ingredients from local farmers’ markets, the restaurant ensures that every dish is of the highest quality.

One of the unique experiences offered is a pizza-making activity, where guests can create their pizzas, perfect for a fun and interactive culinary adventure. For day visitors, the resort offers a P499 rate for swimming, with an option to add P500 for consumable food. (More of Abong ni Tio Berto in future posts.)

Aside from swimming in its pools, guests can also enjoy various activities such as biking, boating, fishing, and yoga, all set against the backdrop of lush landscapes.

Strategically located along the national highway, Hiraya is easily accessible for travelers. The resort’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its energy-efficient facilities and ongoing organic farming initiatives. Future development phases include an organic farm-to-table dining experience and enhanced holistic health and wellness services.
