Manila City launches ‘Support Local’ campaign to help local businesses

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused millions to lose their jobs as many businesses have begun shutting down one by one. But in your own little way, you can help these businesses by patronizing and buying local products.

The Manila City government has launched a campaign to support local businesses affected by the pandemic.

Manila City’s “Support Local” campaign will help businesses recover from their losses due to the pandemic and also help these businesses retain their employees.

“We want to help local businesses here in Manila and we are looking for opportunities to provide more jobs to citizens of Manila,” according to Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.

The Support Local campaign is an initiative of the Bureau of Permits in cooperation with the Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Manila.

It has always been the approach of the city government to balance life and livelihood of the public in coming up with policies and programs, according to Domagoso.

“Buhay at ekonomiya, negosyo at trabaho. Iyon ang atake natin. The direction of the city is pangalagaan ang buhay, pangalagaan ang hanap-buhay,” the Mayor said.

The Support Local campaign does not only target to support large businesses but also small-scale businesses.

Bureau of Permits chief Levi Facundo noted that the project also aims to encourage entrepreneurs to “think outside the box” in order to attract more customers to their respective businesses.

“Ito ay para rin sa benepisyo ng mismong community dahil kapag nadevelop yan, it will not just be a community-based business anymore, later on kapag pinupuntahan ng tao yan it will become a destination,” Facundo said.

“Iyong impormasyon naman natin is global, but the execution is local. Pwede tayong mag-isip ng magagandang kaparaanan na globally yung standard pero ang execution natin ay local, adopting to local taste,” he added.
