Airlines suspend flights during MECQ period

In light of the government announcement placing Metro Manila and nearby areas under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), airline companies have also cancelled flights to abide by the government’s lockdown measures.

Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and Air Asia Philippines have issued notices regarding flight cancellations during the MECQ period.

All Philippine Airlines (PAL) regular scheduled domestic flights to and from Manila from  August 4 to 18 are canceled, according to the airline’s advisory.

PAL domestic flights between Clark, Cebu, Davao and cities other than Manila are not affected and will remain operational.

PAL’s international flights to and from Manila will continue to operate, subject to further guidelines from the authorities in line with quarantine capacity and related arrangements.

PAL advises domestic passengers affected by the cancellation to rebook their flights, refund, or convert their ticket into a travel voucher.

Cebu Pacific Air also suspended all its Cebu Pacific and Cebgo domestic flights operating to and from Manila from August 4 to 18.

It will, however, continue to operate the following domestic flights: Clark-Cebu-Clark, every Tuesday; and Cebu-Davao-Cebu, every Tuesday.

Cebu Pacific will also operate limited international routes, namely: Manila-Dubai-Manila, Manila-Seoul (Incheon), Tokyo (Narita)-Manila, Osaka-Manila and Manila-Singapore-Manila.

Flights between Manila and Taipei, along with all other Cebu Pacific international flights, are also cancelled during the MECQ period.

The airline will also continue to mount all-cargo flights to ensure transport of essential goods across the country. To assist stranded guests, it will also continue working with national and local governments.

Guests on cancelled flights can rebook their flights within three months, with waived change fees and fare difference. They can also store the full value of their tickets in a Travel Fund, which is valid for two years and can be used to book any Cebu Pacific flight within the next 12 months, or purchase add-ons.

Air Asia Philippines also suspended their flights to and from Metro Manila during the MECQ period. The airline also minimized its flights for some of its domestic destinations.

Air Asia flights Clark-Davao-Clark are scheduled every Saturday starting August 1. Beginning August 17, the schedule will resume every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Air Asia flights Cebu-Davao-Cebu will only be on Thursdays starting August 6. It will increase the number of flights beginning August 18.

Air Asia international flight to Kuala Lumpur is scheduled on August 4 and every Tuesday only. Manila to Bangkok will be on August 3 and every Monday only.

Air Asia passengers with cancelled flights can choose between a credit account with a 2-year validity period or unlimited flight changes until October 31, 2020.
