The town of Libjo in Dinagat Islands used to be known more for its sweet watermelons. But today, the humble town is in the radar of tourists for its “Sea of Clouds,” where a thick fog covers the entire town.

The local government hopes this natural phenomenon would attract more tourists to the province so it can fully showcase its many awe-inspiring tourist sites.

The best place to enjoy this breathtaking view is from a mountain located in Brgy. General Aguinaldo. This is where tourists camp to witness clouds blanket the whole of Libjo as early as 2 in the morning.

This is actually a relatively new “discovery.” Local officials say the experience offers a chance for relaxation—for locals and tourists alike.

Meanwhile, in a different part of Mindanao, the Provincial Tourism Development and Promotions Office (PTDPO) of Davao del Sur has commenced a series of site assessment activities in preparation for the reopening and re-launching of tourist destinations in the province.

Among the tourist destinations that were inspected include the municipality of Matanao, one of the places that is increasingly seeing more attention from tourists, similarly thanks to top views of the town’s majestic mountain range.

Local officials target to reopen to tourists by the first week of April, with activities such as trekking, bathing at waterfalls, sightseeing, and spelunking at Su’bon cave among those that would be offered.

The province-wide environmental scanning and product assessment is part of the provincial local
government’s efforts on re-launching and re-opening tourist destinations amidst the pandemic and adhering to the new normal.

In January this year, the provincial LGU officially re-opened the Passig Islet Aqua Eco Park in
Sta. Cruz town, which gained support from local and international visitors.

Other tourist destinations in the province the LGU is eyeing to reopen soon is the Bansalan trail.

Travel protocols in Dinagat Islands and Davao del Sur remain strict, so travelers planning to visit should check for latest updates on travel requirements before proceeding.

Visitors and tourists are encouraged to register in the Davao del Sur COVID-19 Contact Tracing System (CCTS) before coming to the province.
