Taiwan is making a strong case as a top travel destination for Filipinos, and recently, it pulled out all the stops to solidify that reputation. From a dynamic showcase at the 32nd PTAA Travel & Tour Expo to an engaging Taiwan Tourism Workshop, the island demonstrated why it’s becoming an irresistible choice for Filipino travelers.
At the SMX Convention Center from February 7 to 9, the Taiwan Pavilion stood out, both in substance and spectacle. Featuring eye-catching photo walls, cultural performances, and interactive exhibits. The booth gave a taste of what Taiwan has to offer, which earned it the “Most Decorated Booth” award during the event.

The excitement continued with the two-day Taiwan Tourism Workshop 2025 in February. The first day was held at Conrad Manila, while the second day at SMX Convention Center in Clark. Industry professionals, airline representatives, and media personalities gathered to discuss travel trends, partnerships, and Taiwan’s increasing accessibility for Filipinos. The event brought together key players like China Airlines, EVA Air, STARLUX Airlines, Philippine Airlines, and AirAsia, all eager to boost travel exchanges between the two countries.
Taiwan Tourism Information Center Director Yi-Ting Chen welcomed attendees with insights into Taiwan’s latest tourism initiatives, while Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) Representative Wallace Minn-Gan Chow highlighted the strong ties between Taiwan and the Philippines. The event wrapped up with interactive games and a travel mart, ensuring participants left with newfound excitement for Taiwan.

This surge of promotional efforts aligns with Taiwan’s growing popularity among Southeast Asian travelers. In 2024, visitors from the region surged by 10.5 percent from January to September, reaching 1.68 million—nearing pre-pandemic levels, according to an Inquirer report. Filipinos led this growth with a remarkable 38.77 percent increase, recording 338,386 visitors within the same period. With visa-free entry for up to 14 days and multiple flight options, Taiwan has never been more accessible.
For those looking beyond Taipei, Taiwan’s southern gem, Kaohsiung, is a compelling alternative. Cebu Pacific’s recent relaunch of its Manila-Kaohsiung route makes it easier for Filipinos to explore this port city, where modern attractions meet rich cultural heritage. From the lively Pier-2 Art Center to the serene Lotus Pond and the iconic Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, Kaohsiung offers a fresh perspective on Taiwan beyond the capital’s bustling streets.

With these initiatives, Taiwan is proving that it’s more than just a convenient getaway—it’s a destination worth experiencing again and again. Whether for first-time visitors or returning travelers, the island continues to unveil new adventures, strengthening its connection with the Philippine travel market.
