Pico de Loro Cove welcomed the holiday season with a Christmas tree lighting ceremony held last Nov. 27 and led by SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHC)) president Elizabeth T. Sy, Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club president Rita Dy, SMHCC executive vice president Walid Wafik, Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club general manager Louie Peña, and Nasugbu tourism officer Carol Vargas-Zabarte.

The lighting of the 25-feet Christmas tree marks the beginning of a hopeful and joyful holiday season. The said Christmas tree was uniquely designed and handmade by Pico de Loro Cove’s very own employees, a small team of six, led by Housekeeping department supervisor and chief designer Florencio Garcia.

Inspired by Pico de Loro Cove’s advocacy towards sustainability, only available resources inside the property were used, assembled, and handpainted such as dried coconut leaves, bamboo, coconut husk, and Talisay seeds. All other holiday decorations around the property were likewise handcrafted.

The ceremony was filled with Christmas music played by the Biñan Kawayan Music Ensemble, a group composed of young performing artists. They create music with their bamboo instruments like Angklung, Marimba, Piangklung, Bumbong, Rambong, Bamboo Flute, Bamboo Clarinet, and Bamboo Saxophone.

The affair culminated with Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club general manager Louie Peña inviting all guests to spend the holidays at Pico de Loro Cove. Guests brought home freshly baked goodies from Grab N’ Go packaged in a handpainted bayong by Cyrus Tito of the Housekeeping department.
