Love, literally, is in the air–at 30,000 feet above sea level.

Saying their “I do’s” in front of flight passengers that include members of their families as witnesses, flight crews Kristoffer “Topy” Rustia and Micah Cura got married on AirAsia flight Z2 225 bound for Caticlan.

This is the first wedding that transpired onboard a commercial airline in the Philippines. The reception for the couple’s wedding happened in Boracay.

Kristoffer and Micah, who crossed paths in 2018 during their initial cabin crew training in Malaysia, described their wedding as a dream come true.

In December of 2019, Topy and Micah welcomed a healthy baby girl with so much hope for the future.

“Year 2020 was filled with uncertainties and challenges for everyone in the airline industry but we are always reminded of our love for each other, and a promise of a brighter future for our daughter” said Kristoffer.

In December 2020, Kristoffer proposed to Micah, surprising the latter. As flight crews, both wished of getting married in flight.

Kristoffer and Micah informed AirAsia of their “dream wedding” and their colleagues worked together to make that dream come true.

“As crazy as it may seem, I envisioned Micah walking down the aisle in one of our flights wearing her lovely gown, not her cabin crew uniform. It seemed like it would be impossible, knowing that we work as flight attendants, but AirAsia made it happen,” said Kristoffer.

“Topy (Kristoffer) and I are grateful beyond words. It’s one thing to get married, it’s another to fulfill that dream in a place where we started our journey together—inside the aircraft. Our prayer is that we are able to inspire people to just hang on, and never lose hope because there are still many things to be thankful for, despite the many challenges brought by the pandemic,” said Micah.

AirAsia for its part made the necessary preparations, security, and risk assessment to ensure that health and safety protocols were observed during the flight.

The bride, groom, together with less than ten members of their immediate family, and all passengers who were on board the flight tested negative for COVID-19 and submitted all necessary documents as part of the health and safety protocols prescribed by the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and local government of Aklan.

“We hope this story inspires people to never give up on spreading loveAirAsia is very happy to have been part of this historic union, the first wedding onboard a commercial aircraft in the Philippines, flying to one of the World’s best Islands, Boracay,” said AirAsia spokesperson Steve Dailisan.

After tying the knot on board, the couple, together with their families, enjoyed an early dinner reception with AirAsia’s 5-star hotel partner, The Lind Boracay.

The couple will spend their honeymoon in one of The Lind Boracay’s 119 cozy rooms and will get to enjoy the view of the island’s well known sunset by the beach.
