Kokorro Curry, a new Japanese restaurant in Makati City, has brought together the rich heritage of Japanese cuisine and the warmth of Filipino hospitality. With a focus on distinct, authentic curry meals, this dining destination brings a beautiful story of tradition and passion to the table.

What sets Kokorro Curry apart is its specialization in curry. While there are plenty of Japanese dining options in the metro, this one focuses on delivering a unique curry experience.

Founded by Benjie Garcia, who owns Rai Rai Ken (another Japanese resto), Kokorro Curry’s story is inspired by the culinary expertise of Japanese chef Tencho-san. He brings with him the knowledge and expertise to recreate the authentic flavors of Japanese curry—as well as a family recipe that has been passed down for generations.

At Kokorro Curry, there are no shortcuts when it comes to creating their distinct curry. The chefs take pride in their special cooking technique, dedicating more than two hours to the careful preparation and mixing of ingredients. Additionally, they import high-quality curry powder directly from Japan, ensuring a taste that captures the essence of Japanese cuisine.

The restaurant itself is reminiscent of the mom-and-pop establishments found in Japan. With its stand-alone location and charming interior, Kokorro Curry creates an ambiance that transports diners to the streets of Japan.

Kokorro Curry prides itself on being a casual dining establishment, with an intimate 20-seat capacity. The clean lines, natural materials, and cozy atmosphere contribute to its welcoming vibe.

Kokorro Curry currently offers a menu featuring seven curry-based dishes. From classic favorites like beef curry and chicken katsu curry to unique options like fried shrimp curry and sausage curry, there is something to satisfy every palate.

Customers also have the freedom to customize their orders, allowing them to mix and match different curry dishes to create unique combinations. The one constant in every meal is the rich and flavorful curry, which remains the highlight of each dish.

Since its opening in June, Kokorro Curry has been receiving positive feedback from customers who appreciate the dedication and passion put into each dish. Garcia said he plans to expand the menu in the future, aiming to offer up to 20 different kinds of curry meals to cater to a wider range of tastes.

Looking ahead, Garcia envisions Kokorro Curry as a franchiseable brand with multiple locations across Metro Manila. The goal is to establish at least six branches, serving as neighborhood kitchens that bring people together through the love of curry.

For Garcia, Kokorro Curry is more than just a Japanese restaurant specializing in curry; it is a labor of love. With its commitment to quality, authenticity, and customer satisfaction, the goal is to bring people together through good food, one delectable curry dish at a time.
